HORTUS EYSTETTENSIS by Basilius Besler (english) The facsimile of Hortus Eystettensis by Basilius Besler is the faithful reproduction of the 1613 copy held in Eichstätt University Library (SJ II 2892-2894). In three volumes, the Hortus Eystettensis is an illustrated herbarium of extraordinary beauty composed of 367 plates on "imperial" folios, 1084 life-size colour drawings of plants in flower, five frontispieces and a plate with a portrait of the author. The Hortus Eystettensis is the most beautiful florilegium from the early seventeenth century and marks the definitive transition from woodcut techniques to copperplate engraving. The description relating to each plate is on the facing page. For the first time, the plants are ordered on the basis of their flowering period, from spring through until autumn: each season has its own frontispiece and index. Each drawing is given the semblance of three dimensions through the skilled application of shading and chiaroscuro, fundamental to plant recognition. The edition will be limited to 1450 numbered and certified copies.

Gestengesteuertes Präsentationssystem für Handschriften der Bayerischen Staatsbibliothek Das Ergebnis einer Entwicklungspartnerschaft von MDZ und Fa. Microbox ist ein innovatives 3D-Modell für die vollständige Betrachtung von besonderen Handschriften, die auch die Betrachtung der Bucheinbände aus verschiedenen Perspektiven erlaubt. Diese erste Version setzt zunächst auf transformierten 2D-Daten auf. In einer nächsten Version werden 3D-Scans eine noch realistischere Präsentation ermöglichen. Erster Anwendungsfall sind zwei herausragende Werke der Buchkunst: Das "Geheime Ehrenbuch" der Fugger und die prachtvoll kolorierte Kupferstichfolge der "Fuggerorum et Fuggerarum... imagines". In a development partnership of MDZ and Microbox company a 3D-model especially for rare books and manuscripts has been developed. It allows the viewing of the books binding and content from different perspectives. This first version is based on transformed 2D data. Next version will make use of 3D scans to provide an even more realistic reproduction. First use case are two of the most important works of book art: The "Secret Book Of Honour" of the Fugger merchant family and the set of gorgeous copperplate engravings "Fuggerorum et Fuggerarum... imagines" in a skimmable 3D-version (beta).
